Here's the final installment of the first edition of Odd Woman Rush. If things go as planned, this should either be a monthly or bi-monthly feature here at CLS. Feel free to recommend other bloggers and topics in the comments. Share your feedback as well.
Why are you a blogger? What pushed you across the threshold to go from fan/journalist/whatever to someone who publishes hockey posts? Did it have anything to do with "proving" your knowledge? Describe your motivation for starting your blog(s).
It's early in the AM, I haven't had a substantial amount of coffee/whatnot, and I watched the Thrashers and Blues get humiliated by Toskala and Budaj, respectively. Back off.
Walt's gearing up for life after professional hockey - a pick up league. I'd assume beer league, because there's chicken wings involved, but who knows... (hey, look, a Walt fat joke! Told you I was in a snit)

The spreadsheet above (click on it or here to enlarge) is meant to be a nice one-stop spot for Chicago Blackhawks salary cap armchair-ship. Most of this information came from CapGeek.com. If you need a little explanation, here it is:
Starting from the top left:
Hossa - Huet is a simple collection of the contracts currently slated to be on the Blackhawks' cap if the 10-11 season were to start today. The sum of those contracts is represented as "If it goes like this." The column exactly to the right (-3 million something) is how much Chicago would be over the current cap.
Can't Moves refers to the contracts I see the 'Hawks keeping either by choice or by poor contracts. This group includes Kane, Toews, Keith, Campbell, Hossa and Huet. The column to its right is an estimate of how much cap space the Hawks would have left over after those six players (if the cap ceiling never changes).
Depth/filler just includes a few non-essential players who could be moved rather easily.
Free agents includes yet-to-be-signed players. (Obviously)
Logically cannot move is the same as Can't Moves but more convenient to copy-and-paste.
Movable parts refers to the players who could conceivablybe moved in a trade or be waived.
If you'd rather get an e-mail of this spreadsheet, e-mail me at cyclelikesedins[at]gmail[dot]com.
Odd Woman Rush #1 should continue Monday night. Good stuff to come!

Despite the best intentions of blogs like "HLOG", we cannot recall a concerted effort to collect the thoughts of the hockey blogosphere's most talented women. With that thought, we enlisted some of our favorites for a new feature called "Odd Woman Rush."
The plan is to run this feature with considerable regularity, tackling topics that range from the obvious to the obscure. (So if you're a talented female hockey blogger, don't feel like it's ever too late to join in the festivities) In fact, there might be a part II of these origin stories later this week.
Here's a list of bloggers featured after the jump:
Both Mina and Gray of the aforementioned Couch Tarts

First things first, Derek/the Bloguin staff were awesome enough to set up a RSS feed that includes full articles (instead of cutting off at "Read More"). I know how convenient it is to be able to read all you favorite blogs in a Reader (or if you have CLS on your list, your favorites and just ones you kinda like) so here it is:
When I'm not all tired head-y I'll probably put up a permanent link for it somewhere on the site.
The second part of this doubleheader for particular fans of CLS* is the Hockee Night Puckcast I was glad to be a part of. Anyone who wants to backup a claim that I'm a thoughtless blowhard needs only to hit the "play" button and marvel at my ability to interrupt people who actually have something to say. Do go check out Hockee Night as they're good people (and forklift is quite the go-to source for ESPN insider tips to boot) as it looks to be an exciting week in 'Hawkland.
* - I'd say my relatives, but most of my relatives are either oblivious to my blogging or are just plain dismissive about it
Cam Smash is not fond of those annoying linesmen getting into what he does best - fighting.
Is Andy Murray on the toasty hot seat - and if this article's correct, who in the world is thinking Bob Hartley's an improvement with the kids St. Louis has?
I was on the Hockeenight Puck Cast tonight* and another guest (Chris Block of The Third Man In) expressed misgivings about Bloguin. Block seems like a great dude and a knowledgeable man of hockey. I totally respect the fact that sometimes things just don't work out.
That being said, I haven't had any issues (besides Joomla! fucking with my paragraph breaks ... Joomla, don't be an asshole) in the short time I've been here from a personal standpoint. Maybe my luck is better than Block's. I don't know. Perhaps it's a matter of goals/perspective/me being a goof ball. Who knows.
Then again, there hasn't been much feedback about the moves (negative feedback, at least) so perhaps I've lost oodles and noodles of viewers unknowingly? I've never been totally aware of how my "audience" feels. So let me know if this move was a turnoff (although I guess those people are gone anyway?) or if there's anything I can do to make your time with CLS airlines more enjoyable. I also don't have Google Analytics set up here, so that probably makes me a half-idiot in the first place.
Fuck it.
If you fear Thought Police on comment threads, then you could always leave me an e-mail at cyclelikesedins[at]gmail[dot]com. I do a lot of silly things with this blog, but I hope that I am staying true to whatever spirit brought you here in the first place.
And despite my rugged exterior and imaginary flannel, disappointing you would bum me out. So let me know, gumshoes.
* - One: those guys are studs. Two: I'll link the podcast once its on their site and I'm around a computer.
It's been a slower week (thanks to a new job and the holidays) on the blog itself but a fairly busy one behind the scenes. One thing we've been working on is a new feature called "Odd Woman Rush" in which we plan on picking the brains of the many talented and creative females in the hockey blogosphere.
For those OWR-eligible ladies we haven't yet reached, we figure it's a good idea to put this little "Classified Ad" in the blog.
Here's an edited version of the e-mail we sent out to prospective contributors (with some of the aside-heavy stuff taken out to spare your eye rolling):
Despite the good intentions of HLOG, there's rarely - if ever - been a particularly focused "meeting of the minds" when it comes to all the great female bloggers out there. Though not the original inspiration, an old Deadspin feature called "Waxing Off" captures some of the spirit of what I'd like to see. Here's an example from a while ago http://deadspin.com/5052322/the-princess-diaries-deadspin-ladies-deconstruct-erin-andrews
The idea is to have a weekly/monthly/bi-weekly topic and get some of the best female bloggers to riff on it. At first, I figure that the question/prompts will be pretty simple and then occasionally we could touch on timely or more complicated issues.
(I originally tried to start a hockey blog called Odd (Wo)Man Rush with a friend of mine, but she couldn't do it. The title is not necessarily an indictment of your normalcy, just a typical pun title.)
So with all that, what do you all think? Would you like to be involved? Heavily or slightly? Am I an evil pandering douche male? Is the answer yes, but you're still interested?
Do tell.
First question/prompt (and possibly the most obvious):
"Why are you a blogger? What pushed you across the threshold to go from fan/journalist/whatever to someone who publishes hockey posts? Did it have anything to do with "proving" your knowledge? Describe your motivation for starting your blog(s)."
Let's hear it,
-Evil Pandering Douche Male.
